Dingus Privacy Policy

Effective Date: March 26, 2026

1. Overview

Dingus is a native macOS menu bar client for the ntfy push notification service, published by 1507 Systems (BPS Enterprises LLC). Dingus was formerly known as Noti. This privacy policy explains what data Dingus collects, stores, and transmits.

2. Data Not Collected

Dingus does not collect, store, or transmit:

• Personal information (name, email, phone number, address)
• Device identifiers or fingerprints
• Usage analytics or behavioral data
• Crash reports or diagnostic data
• Location data
• Browsing or search history
• Advertising identifiers

3. Local Data Storage

Dingus stores the following data locally on your Mac:

• Topic configuration: Server URLs, topic names, and display preferences are stored in UserDefaults and optionally synced via iCloud Key-Value Storage (non-sensitive settings only).
• Authentication tokens: ntfy server auth tokens are stored in the macOS Keychain using Keychain Services. Tokens never leave the Keychain and are never transmitted except to the configured ntfy server during authentication.
• Notification history (Dingus Pro only): Up to 30 days of received notification messages are stored in a local Core Data database. This data is never transmitted and remains entirely on your device.

4. Network Connections

Dingus makes outbound network connections to exactly three endpoints:

a) Your configured ntfy server (e.g., ntfy.sh or a self-hosted instance)

• Purpose: Subscribe to topics and receive push notification messages
• Data sent: HTTP request with topic name and optional authentication token
• Data received: Notification messages (title, body, priority, tags, actions, attachments)
• When: Continuously while the app is running

b) DNS lookup for dingus.version.1507.systems

• Purpose: Check if a newer version of Dingus is available
• Data sent: Standard DNS TXT record query (no app data, no identifiers)
• Data received: Version string
• When: Once per app launch, approximately

c) feedback.1507.systems

• Purpose: Submit user-initiated feedback
• Data sent: User-written feedback text, macOS version, app version, and tier status (free/pro). All fields are visible to the user before submission.
• When: Only when the user explicitly chooses to submit feedback. Never automatic.

Dingus does not contact any analytics services, ad networks, tracking pixels, or telemetry endpoints.

5. iCloud Sync

Dingus uses Apple's iCloud Key-Value Storage (NSUbiquitousKeyValueStore) to sync non-sensitive settings across your Macs. This includes topic names, server URLs, display preferences, and DND schedules. Authentication tokens are NOT synced via iCloud — they are stored only in the local Keychain on each device.

iCloud sync is governed by Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy.

6. Third-Party Services

Dingus has zero third-party dependencies. No analytics SDKs, no crash reporting services, no ad frameworks, no social media SDKs. The only external service Dingus communicates with is the ntfy server you configure.

7. In-App Purchases

Dingus Pro is offered as a one-time in-app purchase through Apple's App Store. Purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple and governed by Apple's privacy policy. Dingus does not process or store any payment information.

8. Children's Privacy

Dingus does not collect data from any users, including children. The app does not require account creation or any personal information to function.

9. Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the effective date at the top will be changed. Significant changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
